bliss no more

i can't go to bliss or any other upscale spa for massages any more.

this chinatown place (which i'm too selfish to name) employees the best masseuse ever. his name is peter (pictured here with lenox) and i've been going to him for 4 stressful years. he doesn't speak much english except to say "here" when he finds my tight spots and "relax" when i tense up in pain. can't beat $42 an hour.

gotta love ny

Twice a year, NYC has this wonderful week called Restaurant Week. I'm usually too busy to grab lunch out, but this year i managed to squeeze in two lunches thanks to my pal Sarah.

Last week's Megu was so mediocre that there was nothing to write about.  But yesterday's Perry Street was amazing. Sans restaurant week, how could you expect to dine at this gorgeous, waterfront Jean-Georges restaurant for $24? This included 2 selections of appetizers/entrees and a dessert.

We were discussing how anyone could order the angel's food cake for dessert when there's a warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream?

making an appearance

i'm not quite ready to make an appearance on the blog but went to baryshnikov's theater yesterday for an intimate concert. once in a while, you have to inject yourself with high-class culture and i get my fill whenever my cousin or her husband are in town. check out if the st. lawrence string quartet is performing near you.

poo pee

went to meet up with my cousin's husband, geoff, last night.   they just had a baby about a month ago. swung by a new scandinavian design store in the west village and picked up these knickers with pee on the front and poo on the back.

for myself? the poo key chain of course!

go check out pee and poo's official website

you probably wouldn't understand

gustavo.JPG

yeah, looking at this cute little puppy face, you probably wouldn't understand... the frustrations i have to go through in the morning.

bringing gustavo to work is awesome, but getting here is just not the way to start my day.

first off, he's scared of his red puffy jacket cuz it makes puffy jacket sounds when he walks.

second, he's scared of his leash so you have to make sure it doesn't drag; and preferably it needs to be held out of his eyesight.

third,  he's scared of all moving vehicles (understandable, he's only 7 lbs) but apparently he's not afraid to bark at moving creatures 50x his size (aka pit bulls, rotties, and st. bernards).

but alas, we get to work and when he starts barking at his reflection in the dressing room mirror i forget my annoyances. too darn cute.

hops + quarters

so last night my friends and i made the trek (all two L stops) to Brooklyn to explore the legendary, and possibly best idea ever -- Barcade. The perimeter of this place is lined with at least twenty of those clunky relics of childhood... Tetris, DonkeyKong, Punch Out, Pacman, MS. Pacman (phew), Out Run (personal fav), star wars and contra(!) So...turns out i haven't gotten better at any of these games since i was 10, but at 25cents a pop it was worth the trip to find that out.

but the real magic of this place is their insane beer selection. now, while i pretend to know a thing or two about wine, i pretend to know nothing about beer. all i know is that "Black Chocolate Stout" (chocolate + coffee flavors) and "Middle Ages Wizard's Winter Ale" (caramel + cinnamon) are as fun to drink as they are fun to tell your friends you're drinking. and if you're an attractive blonde (much like my friend) the bartender will most likely let you taste all 25 of the choices on tap, which apparently rotate pretty often.

so go, but bring your beergut and your quarters. well...maybe save this one for post valentines-day-lingerie, when you don't need to mind your girlish bod.

i hate the way of the future

so my computer crashed on me today... TWICE!

running your biz may be cool, but double-duty as IT crew isn't cool at all when you have no clues about computers.

the last time this happened, i went and bought next day tix to the bahamas. well, escape is not an option this time. instead, for your enjoyment and for my torture is a pic of the beach i was laying on right about this time last year in curacao.

god i wish i were there right now. dell sux.

rice cakes swimming in my tummy

It's freezing today and I actually considered getting a salad for lunch, but then I passed by the korean restaurant, The Mill and immediately decided to get a tasty rice cake soup. Now I'm full and happy. I'll attempt something more interesting next time.
