my friend hayrim actually fell down during "star power" of Guitar Hero 3 and dislocated her knee and had to go to the hospital. she's now wearing a knee brace, crutches and occasionally a cane. kudos to
being in our thirties and still enjoying video games. you rock!
**fyi, star power is when you've hit all star notes and have to tilt your guitar like a true rock star to get double points. yes, we're nerds. what about it?
welcome our newest staff member, helena.
my fried katsu used to do beautiful shop window displays for us. people would always drop by and poke their heads in and gush about them. he's since moved back to japan and is working in huge department stores and merchandising the likes of 200 donna karan shops.
i was always against using mannequins for display because i just think they're freaky looking. but one day he was doing demolition at michael kors' studio and found that they were throwing out 3 of their luxe mannequins. i don't know how he did it, but he lugged all three ladies back to azaleas and convinced me that we needed them. they were headless so i agreed. we painted them white and gold, and i've gotta say they've done their job well. but unfortunately, it's time for them to retire.
i introduce the newest staff member of azaleas. helena cuz it sounds exotic and sexy. she'll possibly sue for all the indecent exposure required of her job.
actually, her start date isn't for another 4-6 weeks.
this isn't a food blog, but food is a huge part of my life - i eat three meals a night, don't i?
here's my current top 10 foods i can't live without. this will be a rotating list
1)fried chicken. specifically? right now bon chon chicken is beating everybody
2)picked up some delicious apple pie today from something sweet. around the corner from Azaleas. i ate a slice before dinner.
3)truffled egg toast from 'inotecca
4)bacon. fried to a crisp
5)baguette sandwiches. what can i say? my trip to paris made me complete francophile...
if you're ever in union square or the west village, you have to hit up thé adoré. Tiny, quaint French country-style but owned, operated and cooked by Japanese. Seriously.
6)Reeses pieces. I ate all the left-over Halloween candy.
7)dumplings from Vanessa's dumpling on 14th street. stopped there for a quick bite today. 1.99 for 5 dumplings. that's double the price they charge at their sister location in chinatown. but it's still hella cheap. you can buy their frozen packs for 8.99. it's the quickest dinner fix.
8)uni (sea urchin roe)...in any form. i should have listed this first. writing this, i realize i'm living the good life. i had a piece of uni last night at esashi. yum. and who can deny the uni soba at soba koh now that honmura an in soho closed? and the other japanese-run restaurant Basta Pasta has their uni pasta which is what i order 9 out of 10 times i'm there.
9)any clear broth soup that cures hangovers. but the korean and vietnamese soups do their jobs best.
10)vodka? it's made from potato right?
sorry, next time: less text, more photos
while surfing the web,i found this awesome tongue-in-cheek shop suck uk. azaleas is going to look into carrying some of their products. in the meantime, enjoy some of these offerings...
i heard once when i was working in the industry that calvin klein has a pantone color card for his coffee. any assistant that can't match that color gets fired or some nonsense like that. i don't know if it's true but here's a way to make sure you get your boss the right cup of coffee.
one of our customers has an artist boyfriend that makes her the most amazing gifts every year. i still remember listening with envy to her story of receiving a hand-carved wooden boombox , that was really an ipod docking station. lucky sister! anyhoo, here's suck uk's cardboard version
