not really. the news is there's no news.
just posting some stuff that's been going on for me lately.
my friends bought me a class at the ICE culinary institute a year and a half ago for my birthday. their popular classes minus my laziness is why it took a year and a half to take advantage of this awesome opportunity.
well, apparently the class i chose is one of their most popular classes so whenever it's posted up online the classes become full right away. they only take like 12 students per class to keep it small, intimate and hands-on. what class might this be? not anything exotic like "middle eastern cooking," enjoyable like "wine tasting," or exciting like "steak and cake". no, pete and i took their class "knife skills 1 (basic)"
i was worried about having been out of school for so long, how i'd fare in a three-hour (yawn) course in knife skills. but i also have just wanted to learn technique. it turns out that our teacher is an expert and has written a large book about knife skills - cutting, dicing, slicing, peeling, etc. and this is just what we did. starting with carrots and celery, moving onto potatoes, tomatoes, garlic, and more!
some things i've learned:
- i've been holding the knife wrong my whole life.
-we need to upgrade from our global knife 8 inch to a wusthof 10 inch chef's knife
-gotta take his (norman weinstein's) class to learn the technique, but there is a technique. like golf! and i've been practicing at home.
-and i learned how to core a tomato then peel the skin off and turn it into a pretty rose for decoration. don't laugh!
oh, and the in-laws came to town last week. can't complain when they stock up the fridge like this:
thanks mama hahn. we've been eating like 2-4 crabs a day! and peaches! and plums! and grapes! and cherries! and bread! and food........that's four tubs of homemade kimchi down there. all different - stinky sweet!

darn. surfing on the web is safe/dangerous. i can window browse for hours, which is good cuz most of the time i'm not really purchasing anything, but it's also a big waste of time. at least, if i'm physically window shopping i'm exerting some energy and burning some calories. at the computer, i'm just getting carpal tunnel and losing weight in my skinny ass fingers.
any way, here's a bunch of stuff i want but haven't yet clicked the "add to my cart" button for
the realfakewatches: these are leather bracelets with watch faces. love it. click here to buy
