another bambino!

another bambino!
we had a girls' night out last night. not where you sip apple martinis and snack on finger foods. no we went all out to HILL COUNTRY, the newer BBQ joint in the city and ate lbs. of beef brisket (moist), ribs, sausages, and beer.
(sorry, no pics)

one of the gals there was my friend and very loyal Azaleas customer Yuni.

well, this was what was waiting for me at my seat when i showed up:

random stuff

sorry for copping out and just putting promotional stuff on the blog. hasn't been much to write about. or maybe the sun makes me lazy.

here's just a bunch of randoms...

that tree we bought Memorial Day weekend was looking like this:

but now looks even worse than this:

our latest bambino pic. benjamin has grown up to look like this:

hugo has grown up to look like this:

but sorry hugo, we're currently obsessed with my bro's new puppy Cheerio:

you might think i've joined some cult, but this is that that robe they give you at 230 Fifth avenue rooftop bar when it's cold out.

Artichoke pizza made it to my hot 10 EV drunk food list . which is still worth waiting in line for as this pic was from last night...

Here's me eating all-you-can-eat Indian buffet at Jackson Diner in Queens. I had a dream last night that Momofuku was having a Bacon buffet. but alas, it was but a dream. C'mon neighbors!

But the real point here is my "Make Me A Sandwich!" Monster tee.

Which you can buy here.

And last but not least... food!

was in Miami last month and of course, made another trip to Joe's for their stone crabs. ridiculously large!

but the true crab eaters that don't use utensils other than a mallet go to maryland. was there this past weekend visiting in-laws.

and then finished it off with some scrimps. TWO DAYS IN A ROW! it's all just water weight any way.

oh and my newest tv obsession is Meerkat Manor on Animal Planet. Seriously? seriously. but please get whoopi to narrate all the episodes! also, seriously.

panties + vodka - indeed!

so victoria (or vicky as we call her behind her back) graduated this past week from college - yay!

victoria's been on and off at azaleas but only "off" to do cool stints like junior year abroad in italy, and working at organic italian eateries like Quartino Bottega Organica in the East Village. but we're not sore about that, not at all.

if you shop at the store, you'll know her. she's the tall, lanky, pretty Georgian (as in Eastern Europe, not the state of Georgia) who's real to her culture and will tell you like it is. If that dress don't look good on you, Victoria won't let you walk out of the store with it.

any way, while some of us helped bring up the average age of the group ... ahem... we did an all night of azaleas partying in the east village and the lower east side and ended up in the ER! what say you?

We first went to get some major grub at cafecito on 13th and b (cuban). Like i've said, we do love to eat here at Azaleas - the heavier the better.

Then we hit up new bar, Heathers on the 13th and 1st: the bartender made us these fabulous pseudo lemon drop shots.

The darn table kept wobbling, so we found a second use for Victoria's study guide. Don't need that anymore!

amy joined us soon after...

then, we decided to go dancing at the bulgarian night club, menahata. but alas, they were closed on a tuesday at 2 am. what's up with that?

so we went to go look at some ugly boys at max fish but just found prince on the jukebox...we lost amy somewhere along the way...

then we decided to try getting into piano's again despite the fact that 2 of the gals had the same id. they let us in cuz it was EMPTY!

and silly me decided to take a shower when i got home... bad idea, don't ever do that! i'll post a small pic so you don't get too grossed out, but i got 4 stitches on my chin. FYI - ERs are best to go at 4 in the morning on a tuesday. speedy service.

soho house event

azaleas participated at a Ladies Night event at the (in)famous Soho House last night. We took a bunch of bikinis, sun dresses, and what not. We were joined by other designers like Cowshed and Stila makeup, and Eleni's Bakery (thanks for the cupcakes!)

the place was packed with ladies, white sangria, and a great vibe. my friend chris is a member so i got the full-on tour. i accidentally interrupted Russell Simmons during what looked like a business meeting because of my darned cute but loud Loefler Randall flats. that was definitely the highlight of my night. Apparently, I am the antithesis of what Soho House looks for in a member: I geek out at d-list celebs.

oh, well.

i'd love to leave you guys with a pic but was chastised with a "this is a photo-free house" comment.

our bambino - 100 days!

our bambino turned 100 days old yesterday.

October 08, 2007

this makes it all worth it

An email we received recently...

"Hi,
I just wanted to send a quick note to say I'm really very satisfied with my experience buying from your store. I wanted a lingerie piece that was scandalous and wouldn't break the bank, and have had bad experiences buying items like this with big brand name online stores. You guys had exactly what I wanted, the buying process was easy, and I received the product very promptly. I really appreciate it, and I think my boyfriend will too! Thank you! B---- O'-------"

Occasionally, we get disgruntled customers for whatever reason. Hey, we're only human. Hate-mail is never fun to open. Don't hate!

September 21, 2007

one potato, two potato, couch potato

after having a summer hiatus from reality tv (i really tried!), i'm back in on tv. top chef, tim gunn (azaleas episode airing soon!), and now gordon ramsay's kitchen nightmares to name a few.

please please watch gordon ramsay's show, so we can talk to each other? this week's season premiere was too good, we couldn't even pause the tiVo to put the clothes in the dryer. that would've just taken too long!

next week is apparently an Indian restaurant right here in NYC. not sure if i can stomach that one...i can't live without my tikka masala!

falling down

man, what a sucky day...

not having to commute anymore (i live and work in the east village), i always forget about what the rest of the city has to deal with. i feel for you peoples. trying to get to the tradeshows to see all the new SPRING 08 stuff this morning was a hassle and a half. First, i got pushed off 2 trains (I used to weasle myself in there but dont' have the ballss to do it anymore). I then spaced out while trying to transfer to another train and then left the station altogether. (hey, this is before i had any coffee)

I finally realized i had to get back in but i guess the metrocard doesn't cover that mistake and i had to pay up again. all this to try and save some money and it backfires on me. but damnit, the taxis are way to expensive these days.

and then, i got some random racist remark from someone. hmm. why is everyone hating on me? or am i just being a baby?

well, i finally got some coffee and found my girlfriend in the shop - here to do some retail therapy. seems that i'm not the only one who needs consoling.

sorry for b*tching a loadful on the blog but this is my therapy.

Bush has bad day at Sydney Opera House

By TOM RAUM, Associated Press Writer Fri Sep 7, 6:49 AM ET

SYDNEY, Australia - President Bush had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day at the Sydney Opera House.

He'd only reached the third sentence of Friday's speech to business leaders, on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, when he committed his first gaffe.

"Thank you for being such a fine host for the OPEC summit," Bush said to Australian Prime Minister John Howard.

Oops. That would be APEC, the annual meeting of leaders from 21 Pacific Rim nations, not OPEC, the cartel of 12 major oil producers.

Bush quickly corrected himself. "APEC summit," he said forcefully, joking that Howard had invited him to the OPEC summit next year (for the record, an impossibility, since neither Australia nor the U.S. are OPEC members).

The president's next goof went uncorrected — by him anyway. Talking about Howard's visit to Iraq last year to thank his country's soldiers serving there, Bush called them "Austrian troops."

That one was fixed for him. Though tapes of the speech clearly show Bush saying "Austrian," the official text released by the White House switched it to "Australian."

Then, speech done, Bush confidently headed out — the wrong way.

azaleas - closed for filming

check out these photos from filming Tim Gunn's new show. The air date will be kept secret until I say so!

We had to scurry the night before to make the shop look like we only carry lingerie. That may have been true about 3 years ago, but now our forray into clothing is well-known to all our neighbors and online shoppers.

That crazy beaming light was installed for the shoot. beam me up, scottie!

I wonder what jibberish is coming out of my mouth right here? Notice the height difference between me and Supermodel Veronica Webb. I hope the editors work on that.

Check out Tim Gunn's new show

R-O-B-O-T-S

despite playing their theme song, One More Tme, at my wedding i really wasn't a fan of daft punk. in fact, i wasn't really sure who was behind this party tune, but figured it was some Cher-type figure.

when pete found out they were going to be playing Coney Island, i got dragged to go. i came up with all sorts of sicknesses, etc. little beknownst to me, this group is ridiculously rad (yes, i'm using that term) and put on one of the best shows i've ever seen. 2 french dudes in robot suits with a crazy light show and killer music to dance to? who could refuse.

for the encore, they lit up their robot costumes. anyone know where i can get one for halloween?

a close match! ladies arm wrestling by Laura

It's never too late to follow your dream:

After many a barroom tussle, I decided to put my money where my mouth is and prove once and for all my unbelievable arm strength against all ladies weight class 120 and under.

So I followed the footsteps of Ralph Maccio and entered a competition out of my league. Perhaps beyond any league . . . the New York City Golden Arm Series: The Kingsboro Brooklyn Arm Wrestling Championships in Coney Island commemorating the 20th Anniverary of Sly Stallone's Over the Top! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093692/

There were a great deal of muscly men wanting to prove their clout, but few were a match for those Georgians, who were dubbed, The Gulag Gang, by my friend David. One largish man with a scar that rippled from the bottom of his skull to his forehead, and with shoulders that looked dislocated multiple times came up against the Empire State champion from last year, a buff, blond man in his late 30's who's deltoids (in fact his whole chest area) looked like inflated water balloons. The champion was no match for the Georgian who crushed him in one fell swoop-- his black chest and back hairs rising with fury. The Georgians yelled with glee patting each other loudly on the back in teary triumph. Anyway, who can win against those who've suffered through decades of soviet oppression?

I had two opponents in my 120 and under weight class but I was still no match for a tough teenage latina with a low growl. The other opponent, a feisty lady named Chandler whom I'd convinced earlier to enter the contest suffered through my constant beatings. Since we'd all made the final (and only) round, I'm now qualified to enter the Empire State Finals at  . . . . Port Authority (a bus station in Manhattan for those of you not in the know) in November. I received a silver pendant and a classy certificate noting that I've won second place.

I will remember this day always.

we some old peeps

40 is definitely the new 30. we just threw my friend young a 40th birthday and did a pub crawl of his old joints/haunts. This guy is legendary in the East Village. He's what makes you realize that getting old is just in the mind.

-he used to live on Saint Mark's Place when they still had a rehab ctr across the street from his apartment.

-i still remember the 4th of July night when they let those rehab guys out for the night. What were they thinking? we were hanging out at a sidewalk restaurant in front of his place when one of those homemade fireworks landed in my sushi.

-Young had his apartment broken into numerous times. he is a collector of all things vinyl, digital, and literary. he had to go back to the street and buy his cd collection back from the guy who stole it.

-we were stopped at 7B's entrance cuz Young forgot his ID (at the time, he was 31). who says things like "man, c'mon. i used to party here in 80s!" the bouncer didn't let us in.

oh, the countless stories of young...

(he's now living on the Left Coast).

the picture on his tee was taken when he was 32. he looks the same to me. you?

Ryan Seacrest is Genius!

Ryat Seacrest is Genius.

this is not meant to be a sarcastic statement. Seriously, I watch this guy being funny enough on American Idol every week. Slightly cheesy, sometimes-charming: perfect for a host of American Idol.

Tonight (and I apologize for being 4 days behind), I spent 3 hours watching E's Red Carpet Coverage for the Academy Awards. You have to give Ryan props for being able to hold his 5'9" own for hours with the biggest stars of the industry, inserting witty quips, amusing facts, and flashing us his underwear (we're NOT interested!). He's so smooth and just knows how to turn any sour moment into a sweet conversation. That takes talent, people. How DOES he do it?

As for the Oscar Fashion, i can't wait to go to the newstands tomorrow to pick up some trashy magazines... "Stars! They're just like us!" "Normal!" "Not Normal!"

Happy Chinese New Year - Part II

This is an email forward i got from a friend:

SICHUAN, China -- One zoo in southwest China has its hands full with 16 baby pandas.
The Sichuan Wolong Panda Protection and Breed Center is dealing with the results of a breeding boom -- 16 pandas have been born since July, 2006. The brood includes five sets of twins. The cubs are weighed and measured every five days.

The heaviest tips the scale at just over 24 pounds, while the lightest weighs about 11 pounds. The pandas are due to stop suckling by  February, 2007 just about the time they'll start learning to walk. Once weaned, the panda cubs will attend panda kindergarten. In the meantime, more little ones are expected at the center since 38 giant pandas were artificially impregnated.

making an appearance

mikhail.jpg

i'm not quite ready to make an appearance on the blog but went to baryshnikov's theater yesterday for an intimate concert. once in a while, you have to inject yourself with high-class culture and i get my fill whenever my cousin or her husband are in town. check out if the st. lawrence string quartet is performing near you.
