pow pow! and the winner is!

i love us weekly magazine. it's the one thing in the mail i wait for anxiously (but shamefully) on thursdays. it's like my celebrity rehab fix. i gotta have 1 night reading about "celebrities...they're just like us! they get gum on their shoes!" mind you, they're wearing $600+ christian louboutins and me? well, nothing quite like that.

one of the better features in the magazine is, "who wore it best" wear they pit celebrities who've (gasp!) worn the same outfit in public. love it!

well, this week features our top worn by hayden and nicky hilton. click here, to buy.

vs.

and the winner?oscar de la hoya rocking the high heels and still looking hot. N O T ! not cool man, not cool.

my fake big-ass Marc Jacobs bag - that's from C-H-i-N-A

my Lara Kazan Pilot Cap

and then my new haircut underneath that lara kazan hat?

Remember i tried this cut before?

Look of the Week

While I write up all sorts of nonsense on this blog, I do have to maintain it as a vehicle to hypnotize you and lure you to shop... i guess. So now begins our new blogposts: Look of the Week.

Nobody Walks in LA

Last night, my boyfriend informed me that his assistant had found the holy grail of shoe sales at the Charles David warehouse sale. Like, 2 pairs for $60, boots for $80 kind of sale. So this morning I turned into a nondescript office park cul-de-sac in Culver City and saw a sea of women the likes of which I haven't seen since first-year orientation at Smith College. There was no parking. For a moment I thought I'd actually have to walk a block or two and by LA standards that's just crazy talk.

Anyway, I finally found a parking spot and joined the throngs of agitated women lining up for the shoe kool-aid. It was kind of like being in a pack of hungry lions trailing the scent of dying wildebeest. No talking, unless it was on cell phones informing the rest of the pack where to go. Imagine an entire parking lot filled with tables upon tables stacked with shoeboxes. I am going to hell, but in my mind it resembled a Katrina-like shelter situation, only instead of sleeping bags and refugees, it was just TONS of shoes and crazy women. I joined my fellow wee-women in the size 5 section and then I realized something: I'm old. Back in the day, I had a pair of Charles David heels that were beyond painful to wear, but I sucked it up because they looked hot. Today, I looked through the high high heels, the bedazzled and bestudded piles of shoes and was like, "eh."

So I left the warehouse and with it, apparently my twenties. Is it just me or is this the natural progression of things? Now I don't care if shoes are on sale (well, I care a little) as long as they are reasonably comfortable. I'm not talking nun-shoes, but i just have to be able to walk in them for at least 15 minutes. That's a very long walk in LA.

t-t-toasty

so our fellow blogger helene has come up with genius sweatshirts that we can't keep stock of. These are all one of a kind and sold in-store only (sorry web shoppers!). Well, for now any way. If you're dying to have one of these, give us a call at the shop and we'll see what we can do.

In all sorts of color combos...(we just sold this one today!)

this is what helene has to say about these:

"Mittens are hand knit from Huntington, Indiana, USA. Great for storing cell phones and chocolate kisses.

Sweaters are 100% cotton and brand spanking new."

i'm back!

ok enough of this. sorry for the long hiatus from the blog. i've got so much in my head to blog but not all the time in the world. we'll try to update as much as possible.

fyi, i'm writing my spring orders. I'm sure you guys have read all over the US weeklies, fashion blogs, etc. that Lauren "LC" Conrad from The Hills has launched her own line? Well, it's darn cute. But by principle, I can't get myself to write the line. Any interest out there?

I just cringe when I see celebrity-designed lines. Not to say I don't buy them personally but they're also never really "designed" by them. Most likely, the line is designed by a group of corporate designers that  try to capture the look or feel of that celebrity. But we are certainly delighted here at Azaleas with the Elle Macpherson intimates line. I love love love her stuff. So why not Lauren Conrad?

let me know if you'd be terribly offended if we carried the line!

oh, here's the link to her website: http://shoplaurenconrad.com

come in today!

ok, we here at azaleas apologize for being soooooo busy and sooooo lazy at the same time.

We have TOO many majorly cute stuff in and i'm soooo not overusing my superlatives right now.

Seriously, we have been opening box after box in the shop of adorable fall merchandise. all you hear is, "oh my gosh, i want one of those" we're so busy tagging stuff, i haven't been able to put up new merch on the site. i apologize profusely to our web shoppers and will get working on this after this blog post...

in the meantime, if you live/work or are visiting the city, come on down! I sould like bob's discount furniture store, but i mean it!

here's a shot of our left-coast friend, Cindy, donning her newest purchase (a fleece coat from woo).

nice bag~~

This week is market week (the not-so-glamorous equivalent of Fashion Week for us smaller stores), and all the fashion peeps are in town.

any way, i picked up my new fall bag recently - the Matinee bag from Rebecca Minkoff and i noticed 4 different people carrying  it. no problemo but i love how people react differently when they see someone carrying the same bag. it's either "hey, nice bag!" *Smiles all around* or you see the girl notice out of the corner of her eye and then inch away from you.

Me? i'm the one who inches away. ha!

gotta have it - fall 07

i don't know what it is but i haven't been excited about new jeans in a long time. like i haven't-bought-jeans-in-the-last-year long time. but yay! newfound interest and a new cut has won me back. and since i already got my hands on them, i'll give in on my new fave pair.

from Anlo jeans, the trouser cut, wide leg jeans have gold button detailing and pocket that make your bum look extra scrumptious.

We don't really carry denim in our shop, so i'll have to send you elsewhere. snag a pair at shopbop.com!

Hair Raiser

turban.jpg

Yes, i've got zero ounce of creativity but my old colleagues don't! Another old coworker had started up her own business, and of course, i've got to give her a shout out as well. In fact, the second my hair grows out, i'll have to order something from jen's fall collection.

Jennifer Behr's hair accessories can be found at upscale stores like Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus.

additional coupon

after realizing that some of the hanky panky rookies might not know how awesome these thongs are, we decided to do another coupon where you can buy 3 for $48! This deal won't last for long, so get in on it.

Oh, here's Katie's big accomplishment yesterday.

THE HANKY PANKY DRAWER

This is a secret compartment in the store where only those in the know can come behind the counter and choose among every color that Hanky Panky offers in both the Low-Rise and the Regular-Rise.

if Vanessa wears them...

For a limited time only (through June 25th), Azaleas is celebrating Vanessa Minnilo's push of the Hanky Panky thongs with a coupon. Did we really care? Well, nonetheless we all know it's the best thing in the thong world.

the cool b&t

chameleon.JPG

I remember when i was part of the corporate world. You'd have an extra 2-3 pairs of high heels at the foot of your desk. And then the awesome B&T fashion of wearing a skirt suit with a pair of sneakers to and from work. Not hot.

Well, these guys have awhile to go with the fashion factor, but they've gotten the technology down. Check out the Camileon Heels.

i suffer from MJTS

suffering for fashion is undeniable and inevitable in NYC. The brutal winter months seem never-ending and if you don't want to look like a dopey snowman, you'll weather the cold with nothing but leggings and a colorful scarf. and then, the sidewalks are not so easy to walk on in heels either. Your new favorite Louboutins will certainly blister and bruise your peds.

i, on the other hand, don't always believe in death by fashion. this is why i only wear flats. at only 5 ft 0.5 in, i don't stand out much at the bars. i swear, some bars are only inviting to tall chics, and i'm constantly navigating myself so i don't get stepped on. but i find that flats come at a high price as well. especially, if you are wearing Marc Jacobs flats.

Hence, the MJTS - Marc Jacobs Toe Scrunch. Marc Jacobs designs the cutest little flats for me every year. This is all I wear - i probably have 5 pairs of his mouse shoe. They're comfy, cute, and show just the right amount of toe cleavage. but your toes can never really get a hold on them unless they scrunch up. c'mon, i know you know what i'm talking about. unfortunately, this has now turned into more than just a nuisance. there's a sharp pain that runs from my big toe up my ankle.
pete thinks i should stop wearing them. what do you think?

March 20, 2007

spring is here

hmm...

how i love spring, let me count the ways.

here's number 1 (1 of a million dresses, that is).

in true fashion-obsessed manner, i trudged through the snow to check out the new Spring collection at tiny Nolita boutique, Lyell.

February 28, 2007

i quit

so i quit my quitter socks. for those of you who don't know: quitters are those socks that just won't stay up. they roll down and by the time you've gone half a block, they're scrunched up by your feet ; With this snow/rain we're getting, it's super-annoying to dig your finger into those massive boot to try and pull them up when they'll be doing the same thing over in five minutes.

while doing my laundry yesterday, i decided to toss them. the weird thing is, i never remember buying these socks so maybe they belonged to my roommate in the first place? oops.

Actually, now that i'm writing this, i just remembered i also have quitter panties. My Saint Grace undies (from Azaleas, of course) are one of my favorites... but having 100% cotton undies also has its cons. since there's no synthetic elastane in there, panties tend to stretch out. While wearing these with jeans doesn't really make any difference, running at the gym with them is not so fun. i basically ran for 15 minutes while holding my pants up and gave up. so i quit and left the gym, but i'm definitely not throwing them out. panties that slip down easily have got to be an asset somehow, no?
