so when i was telling you all about my new york weekend last week, i forgot to mention how i'd ended it. we spent memorial day night at mercury lounge to see Brandi Shearer. an artist i've discovered from those hundreds of promo cds that we get to play in the store. her music is kinda country, kinda folk, and a lotta angst.
check out her cd closer to dark or i always go to artists' websites and let them play the music for me while i work.
any way, she was great on stage except she was playing all her new music that's not recorded yet. i was hoping to sing along but oh well.
meanwhile, we decided to stick around after to see this gal Kate Walsh. ever heard of her? don't get her confused with kate nash. any hoo, her music was fantastic and now i'm her number one fan. these guys are all on tour so maybe they'll be coming to your neck of the woods?
she's a brit gal with a beautiful voice and some stories to tell.
go to her site immediately and start listening
thanks to my hubs' connections, we got last minute sold-out tix to cut copy at mercury lounge last night.
and despite that it was a monday night and they didn't come on till 11pm, didn't mean a thang!
those guys killed it! and you know they did when i didn't drink a lick and danced my ass off. i don't remember the last time i went to a concert and was completely sober. even at daft punk i was sick as a dog, but i still nursed a beer the entire time.

if new order's substance is one of your fave albums of all time, i'd go ahead and click here to download their newest song.
nothing says i love you like a heartfelt song (and dance?)
we all can't sing like alicia, but grab a hot number from our shop and clumsily sing and dance on your bed. we guarantee that you'll both have a laugh and start some frisky business immediately...
in case you missed alicia's amazing performance of her love song "no one" on the grammys, here you go.
sing along and sob like no one can get in the way of your feelings. oh and pasty john mayer can strum a note or two.
well, haven't i been living the life? last week, i hit up two concerts. That's the great thing about living in the city - there's never a shortage of cool people rolling into town. if sinead was all about the power of voice, morrissey is all about the power of lyrics.
well, honestly i didn't grow up listening to morrissey. so his lyrics were lost on me. i felt like a mute, because i could hum along but frustratingly could not sing along. it was like when i went to hear the gipsy kings years ago - but they sung in spanish.
nonetheless, there was a whole crowd of gloomy emo-types that were swaying and singing along.
the best was at the end when the stage got bum-rushed by fans climbing to get a hug. mos decided to shed his sweaty shirt off, too.
Until last night, I forgot all about the power of voice. No joke.
We went to see a SOLD OUT Sinead O'Connor show last night. Whenever pete suggests a concert I shouldn't be dubious (like that time we went to see daft punk) and just go along.
Sinead sang her heart out to the irish men's content...yeah, a lot of irish came out to support. nice!
I didn't know any of the songs she sang except for the well-known "nothing compares 2 you" but i was thoroughly intoxicated by her voice. The sound system at beacon theater's pretty horrible - I couldn't really hear any of the lyrics but it didn't matter. It's crazy how someone's tone can overwhelm you and bring back memories you forgot all about.
well, i got to thank sinead after the concert and tell her how amazing she was.
look! she's my size.
as part of my birthday present, i'm going to see robin thicke in concert.
for those not in the know, hurry and get your copy of this slightly-cheesy, very sexy cd.
nothing has put me more in the mood since r. kelly, or even george michael.
you've probably heard the track "lost without you" on the radio and imagined an usher-like singer, but it's actually alan thicke's son. just close your eyes when you see the music video - you won't want to see him groping his own body during the line "u wanna touch yourself when you see me"
my fave is that the tix to the concert say '16 and over'. darn, i could be a mother to some of these screaming gals!
we get free music to play in the shop now and then. this cd's been great but appropriate for today is
the track titled 'f-cking boyfriend'
nice.
check out their myspace page.
i occasionally refer to janemag to find cool new music. i'm too old and tired now to experiment...
any hoo, i was so excited to see that one of my fave bands from the old days has just put out a new cd. i just downloaded to itunes and only on the second track but it's awesome. i'm so siked that nina's back! yeah, we'll probably be playing this tomorrow at the shop.
download it now...

oops. just went to their site and this cd came out in september. told you....
