panties + vodka - indeed!
so victoria (or vicky as we call her behind her back) graduated this past week from college - yay!
victoria's been on and off at azaleas but only "off" to do cool stints like junior year abroad in italy, and working at organic italian eateries like Quartino Bottega Organica in the East Village. but we're not sore about that, not at all.
if you shop at the store, you'll know her. she's the tall, lanky, pretty Georgian (as in Eastern Europe, not the state of Georgia) who's real to her culture and will tell you like it is. If that dress don't look good on you, Victoria won't let you walk out of the store with it.
any way, while some of us helped bring up the average age of the group ... ahem... we did an all night of azaleas partying in the east village and the lower east side and ended up in the ER! what say you?
We first went to get some major grub at cafecito on 13th and b (cuban). Like i've said, we do love to eat here at Azaleas - the heavier the better.
Then we hit up new bar, Heathers on the 13th and 1st: the bartender made us these fabulous pseudo lemon drop shots.
The darn table kept wobbling, so we found a second use for Victoria's study guide. Don't need that anymore!
amy joined us soon after...
then, we decided to go dancing at the bulgarian night club, menahata. but alas, they were closed on a tuesday at 2 am. what's up with that?
so we went to go look at some ugly boys at max fish but just found prince on the jukebox...we lost amy somewhere along the way...
then we decided to try getting into piano's again despite the fact that 2 of the gals had the same id. they let us in cuz it was EMPTY!
and silly me decided to take a shower when i got home... bad idea, don't ever do that! i'll post a small pic so you don't get too grossed out, but i got 4 stitches on my chin. FYI - ERs are best to go at 4 in the morning on a tuesday. speedy service.

i love how i suggest to people to buy gifts for their moms at Azaleas, and they always freak out. like "no way, i would never buy lingerie for my mom!" well, this i get... especially if you're a boy. but we do have other things like robes, yoga pants, some good basics, you know?

overhaul baby
whoa. it must be spring cuz there's a whole bunch of stuff going on at azaleas. and i'm not just talking about all the cute friggin things we're getting in everyday - overload!
i'm talking about the most subtle changes in the appearance of azaleas. like the new, gigantic 10 foot wall we just got in. we're 5 years old and it was time for a facelift. shhh! don't tell anyone and no, you can't touch!
we found some old photos of the wall and now you can see the evolution of our giant pegboard.
circa 2002... when we first opened, cindy lee and i hammered these memory boards into the wall to create a soft, boudoir feel.
circa 2004... before katsu grew his business to merchandise something like 200 donna karan shops in japan, he used to do our windows for fun. he thought we needed to go 3D and put up these new shelves for us. note the afro-ken doll on the top shelf wearing an eyemask. that's a good way to draw people into the store - not!
circa today! uber-carpenter (that word doesn't do this man justice!) lars created this pegboard with love and care. when not making things for us or doing the holiday windows at saks, lars goes down to new orleans to help rebuild the city - literally.
and voila! with actual springness!

happy valentine's day
happy heart day. happy v day. happy luv day.
undoubtedly, it's our busiest day of the year. and for us shop gals, it's our favorite. boys roll in here non-stop looking for ways to tell their ladies how much they love them.
to the boy who came in here mumbling and embarrassed: please come on back. we want to help you but we can't if you're so shy! and yes, they are called boyshorts - we're not trying to be pervie
to the man who came in here and bought a huge box of panties last week for his wife and told us it wasn't for valentine's day but just because... you're every girl's dream. how lucky your wife is!

Bra Fitting 101
this was written by our one and only, katie... she's fitted gals of all sizes, i'm telling you, in our store and at other NY shops...
we will be posting this in another easily accessible page online soon but for your reference...
Sizing
85% of women are wearing the wrong bra size! This means…85% of women are restlessly pushing, pulling, pinching, and fiddling with their bras all day long. But really, we shouldn’t even feel our bras. The best solution to these womanly woes is to make sure you are wearing the right size: get measured (or measure yourself) and enroll in a five minute Bra Fit 101:
To measure yourself, first wrap a tape measure comfortably (not tightly! It’s your ribcage…not your waist…) right below your breasts. Add 4 inches to this number to find your band size (ex. 34, 36). To double check, wrap the tape under your armpits and above your breasts. This number should also be your band size. To find your cup size, place one end of a tape measure at the center of the underside of your breast and measure to your nipple. Each inch equals one cup size (1 inch = A, 2 = B, 3 = C, 4 = D, 5 = DD)
These measures can give you a ballpark size; if you come up with an odd number you should try the closest sizes above and below. And remember… all bras are created (and sized) differently.
Common woes:
Spillage.Not to be confused with cleavage. If you are overflowing from your bra in the front or sides, or the cup is cutting into your breast and giving you a “double boob”, the cup size is most likely too small. Try going up one cup size (34C -> 34D)
Underwires.Many women who have sworn off underwire bras because of poking and pinching were really suffering from a poor fit, not an evil bra. The underwire should lie flat against your ribcage and completely enclose your breast. Lift your arms; if anything “spills” from the bottom, go up a cup size. The right shape bra for your body can also make the underwire more comfortable, so try a few styles.
Back. Wear your bra on the loosest hook so that you can tighten it as the bra wears in. The band of your bra should sit flat against your back, with enough room to fit 2 fingers comfortably, and should be parallel to the ground. If the back of your bra is riding up, it’s generally a sign that the band size is too big. Back pudge? Well. Sometimes it’s unavoidable. Other times it’s a sign that the band size is too small. (Important! Going up a band size (34B to a 36B) will also increase the cup size, and likewise going down will make the cup smaller. This can be confusing, but is further proof that you should try multiple sizes and styles and go for what fits you best.)
Front.The center of the bra should (ideally) sit flat against your breastbone. If you can drop a pencil between your boobs and your bra, it’s probably not the right size or shape for you. If you are well-endowed, it can be difficult to get it flat against your sternum, but try to get it close.
Straps.Not to be forgotten! Sometimes adjusting your bra straps to be comfortably taut can make all the difference.
Perk. To make sure your bra is doing what it should, look straight into a mirror. Your nipples should be halfway between your shoulder and your elbow.
Freak of nature. Just kidding. ALL women have one breast that is at least slightly bigger than the other. If this becomes a problem during sizing, measure the larger sister and go from there. Bras that have some kind of molding or padding can conceal any size discrepancies

newest staff member at azaleas!
welcome our newest staff member, helena.
my fried katsu used to do beautiful shop window displays for us. people would always drop by and poke their heads in and gush about them. he's since moved back to japan and is working in huge department stores and merchandising the likes of 200 donna karan shops.
i was always against using mannequins for display because i just think they're freaky looking. but one day he was doing demolition at michael kors' studio and found that they were throwing out 3 of their luxe mannequins. i don't know how he did it, but he lugged all three ladies back to azaleas and convinced me that we needed them. they were headless so i agreed. we painted them white and gold, and i've gotta say they've done their job well. but unfortunately, it's time for them to retire.
i introduce the newest staff member of azaleas. helena cuz it sounds exotic and sexy. she'll possibly sue for all the indecent exposure required of her job.
actually, her start date isn't for another 4-6 weeks.
